Background Information for Teachers
The following resource has been developed to address the five-six ‘digital technologies curriculum.’ The aim of this resource is to assist teachers in implementing engaging and meaningful learning experiences while addressing curriculum learning outcomes in year 5-6 Digital technologies curriculum.
The resource includes a unit plan which consists of 7 lessons in which students plan and record an important life event using a digital storyboard and movie software. Teaching sequences allow for appropriate adaption and differentiation to provide appropriate support throughout the completion of the digital narrative and planning processes. Higher order thinking will be embedded within the unit as students analyse and reflect on a personal life experience and the intended emotions being evoked. Students will be encouraged to remain respectful and develop empathy during presentations. Learning sequences allow teachers to provide examples and encourage students to follow and repeat simple steps to cover their personal event. The selected programs are age appropriate while the resource includes online support for teachers new to the software.
Australian Curriculum Connections:
English:
This unit can be aligned with year five, Australian Curriculum: English as students understand, interpret and experiment with sound devices and imagery, including simile, metaphor and personification in narratives (ACELT1611) while exploring how vocabulary and expression can affect the viewers interpretations or response (ACELA1511). Throughout planning and the completion of storyboards and final digital narrative, students strengthen their understanding of the intended purpose of their digital design.
General capabilities:
-Critical and Creative thinking
-Literacy
-Personal and social capability
-Information and communication technology capability
Cross curriculum Priorities
-Asia and Australia’s engagement with Asia
-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures
